Kate Corkery


Kate is a lawyer, mediator, director and governance professional with a background as a litigator at one of Australia’s major regulatory organisations (ASADA); & ACT Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.  She is an experienced Executive Officer and National Board Chair with a reputation for using advocacy and communication to build organisational culture, governance reform and strategic transformation.  Kate is currently the Director of Sport Governance & Strategy at Sport Australia.

Kate was first appointed to a Director position on a sport board in the ACT in 2013 when she was 27. She developed a passion and love for being a Director. In 2016 she was appointed to her first National Sporting Organisation Board – Judo Australia - and in 2017 she was elected Judo Australia’s first female and first independent Chair. In an Australian first in 2018 she was appointed to the International Judo Federation Gender Equity Commission.

Kate’s reputation is for achieving outstanding financial results, governance improvement, staff and volunteer engagement and for being an inspiring leader. The breadth and depth of her experience with national and state sporting organisations, government stakeholders and community organisations has ensured she is sought out to work broadly across all areas of the sporting and community sectors to grow organisational results, profile and participation and to lead change.

Kate is passionate about community. She is inspired by power of a group of people coming together because they believe in something, love something, support something or want to be a part of something great.
